About

Hello! My name is Lauren Eyton-Jones.
I began teaching piano to neighborhood kids when I was 14 years old, and have loved teaching ever since. Helping a student develop their talent is such an exciting process that I can hardly call it work.

My own musical education has come from several schools including the Royal Conservatory of Music, Etobicoke School of the Arts and the Harris Institute for the Arts. I have studied classical piano and voice as well as music production and sound engineering. Another huge part of my education has come from my personal experience as a musician; I have worked on many recording projects, including my FACTOR funded EP Art Grooveau, and produced a Canada 150 song that was featured on CBC on July 1st 2017 multiple times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu4gAj7Gvt8  I have performed in various bands, for example 4 years with the dance band Gooding Jones and the Overtones, and performed at events like weddings and fundraisers.

I have taught both privately and at schools such as Toronto’s Little Feet Little Faces School for the Arts. My love of teaching has even extended to other fields, as I was a fitness instructor for 7 years with GoodLife Fitness! Here I taught Dance-based and Yoga-based fitness classes, a perfect extension of the physical expression of music.

One of the coolest features about music lessons at City Grown Sounds is the performance opportunities. Every year I host 2 group classes (students only) and recitals (spectators welcome). These are not your average recital; besides the regular piano playing there is singing, dancing, collaborations and even audience participation. The goal is to create a positive musical environment that is about expression and artistic freedom. I feel that goal is achieved when after each recital the students always ask me, “when is the next one? I want to do it again!”

Last but not least, in the last few years I have had several students take off with their songwriting. As a songwriter myself since the age of 13, I have found a way to teach kids the principals behind crafting a story both musically and lyrically. There is even one sample I can’t share yet on my media page because it has attracted label interest! But please head over there to cheque out some catchy originals that I am certain will get stuck in your head.
